What is the W.E.E.E. Directive?
As production and use of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) has grown, there has also been an inevitable rise in the requirements for disposal of such equipment. As a result, potentially harmful pollutants can end up in the environment and items which could be recycled are ignored. The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (W.E.E.E.) Directive is European regulation which aims to minimise the impact on the environment of EEE both during and at the end of its life cycle.
In the UK the Directive was implemented by the WEEE Regulations (SI 2006 No. 3289) with different deadlines imposed for sections of the Regulations during the first half of 2007. The Regulations are now completely in force. The complex Regulations require registration by producers of EEE and regulate WEEE generated by both B2C and B2B business. As such this comprehensive and wide ranging piece of legislation will affect most UK businesses.
Bell Microproducts Limited has registered as a producer under WEEE Registration No. WEE/CA0091VU. For more information on WEEE visit the DTI's website at http://www.dti.gov.uk/innovation/sustainability/weee/page30269.html
