The Data Protection Act
Whether you directly destroy data or use a third party, you are accountable. Our data security log creates an audit trail for "cradle to grave" reporting; providing detailed tracking of all assets at serial number level from receipt through to their final disposition.
Duty of Care for Waste
You are obliged to retain records of this process for regulatory auditing. Our Certified Audit Report provides you a permanent record of the precise final disposition of every asset processed whether it is reused by you, sold for reuse by someone else or recycled and refined by raw material Detailed audit information can be imported into your asset management system, provided in hard copy or online from our secure website.
Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment Regulations
Procedures for environmental compliance ensure indemnification from the risks associated with electronic scrap disposal as governed by WEEE and RoHS. Bell Micro Europe is ISO certified 9000 :2000 (Quality) & 14001 (Environmental) and our solution is carried out by an ICER (Industry Council for Electronic equipment Recycling) accredited recycler.
Internally
Bell Micro is committed to building a green strategy for our energy, having already taken a number of significant steps towards reducing our corporate carbon footprint and creating a strategy for a greener future for this business.
Planning is at the heart of any successful green strategy and for us this means focusing on three areas:
1. Buildings & Infrastructure: We have measured the carbon footprint of our Haslingden operations and are taking steps to reduce our energy consumption through changes to our lighting, heating and computer output. Similar steps for our other sites are planned.
2. Office waste and efficiency: Bell Micro has already implemented the following green initiatives:
o A 'Think before you print' campaign for emails and other documents encourages people to reduce paper use and printer energy requirements
o Our 'green dot' campaign sees energy hungry devices marked with a prominent green dot to remind users to switch them off each night
o We have placed a range of recycling bins around the office to encourage people to recycle wherever possible
o Energy efficient lighting and appliances are a top priority - with all devices being checked and replaced where appropriate, new 'natural lighting' options are actually reducing energy use whilst improving the light quality in our business environment
o All printer cartridges are now recycled
o Our 'green suggestions box' - placed at the heart of our business enables Bell Micro staff to add something to our green debate on an ongoing basis
3. Travel costs: Bell Micro is developing a comprehensive plan for the way in which we interact with all of our stakeholders in order to make better use of virtual meeting technology and reduce the miles we actually travel.
For any business 'going green' is a continuous process, to this end we are always planning for our greener future. At the moment Bell Micro marketing is looking at new ways to generate awareness internally around our philosophy of 'Reduce, Reuse and Recycle'. Additionally, our energy bill has been identified as one measure of success with clear targets in place to reduce use of radiators wherever possible.
